Abstract

In this paper we describe the basic concepts for data storage, access and cataloguing in the EU Enabling Grids for E-SciencE project's middleware named gLite. In the gLite middleware stack, the data management functionality is provided by a set of services. The design of these services is driven by the principles of interoperability, portability, modularity and scalability.
