Compared with narrowband antennas, ultra-wideband antennas have particular characteristics which involve complementary and new ways to describe them. This article presents theoretical considerations and a methodology to characterize UWB antennas in the time-frequency domains from simulation and measurement using a vector network analyzer. In particular, the impact UWB antenna from the point of view of their filtering features is emphasized. Experimental considerations are developed from a specific UWB antenna. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2009.
