Abstract

In this paper we propose a new communication infrastructure that enables the creation of residential automation application using the Brazilian interactive Digital TV System and diverse electronic devices. The integration process among the involved technologies as well as each element in the proposed infrastructure is described in details. Along the paper the main goals of this infrastructure are joining together in the same environment software technologies, such as the Digital TV middleware specification (Ginga), a framework for application management on Home Networks (OSGi), and some communication technologies that are more appropriate to the Brazilian interactive Digital TV market. In order to prove the model functionalities, we created some validating scenarios involving sending a simple text over Bluetooth to a Digital TV application through a mobile phone and showing on the TV Screen information about temperature sensor located in some rooms of the house over WiFi.
