Abstract

An efficient clutter elimination algorithm will largely enhance the detectability of dim point targets embedded in heavy clutter image. In this paper, a novel point target detectability enhancement algorithm named adaptive morphological clutter elimination which is constructed by importing the properties of the target region is proposed. The consideration of the properties of the target region not only enhances the adaptive ability of the algorithm, but also improves the performances of the algorithm. Experiments indicate that our proposed algorithm on clutter elimination, false alarm reduction and target enhancement are more powerful than some other widely used methods for the purpose of point target detection; thus the detectability of the point target image is greatly enhanced.
