Abstract

Network and systems management has in the past been rather inward-facing, in that management decisions have mainly been driven by factors within the network. Ubiquitous systems management must however be outward-facing towards the goals and constraints coming from outside the network. Autonomic systems, taken broadly, offer a rubric within which the model and address the trade-offs implied by this change of focus.
