Abstract

Efficient grooming of traffic can greatly reduce the cost of the network. To deal with the changing traffic in SONET/WDM tree networks, two heuristic algorithms are developed by combining genetic algorithm with traffic-splitting heuristics. To evaluate the algorithms, the bound is also derived. Computer simulations show that the proposed algorithms can achieve good results in reducing the blocking rate of new traffic.
