Abstract

In this paper, we investigate a localization system that consists of unknown emitter nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN) with four anchor nodes that have known locations. It is assumed that the only available information to the system is the received signal strength indicators (RSSI) of the RF signals that are in practice difficult to be accurately measured. To estimate the unknown node position, particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach is first utilized to estimate the multipath model of the transmission channel. The estimated channel model is then used together with the PSO to perform estimation of the sensor node position. Both simulation and experimental results of the proposed approach are presented and shown to be better than previously reported results.
