Abstract

The teachable agent environment provides middle school students with opportunities of engaging in teaching activities in an interactive environment that fosters active learning (Biswas, Schwarz, & Bransford, 2001). However, they are not directly supported to think about their teaching as they teach. This paper proposes a reflection prompt production mechanism in a teachable agent environment to prompt students to reflect on their teaching process. A pilot study on the benefits of introducing reflection prompts and the further development of the teachable agents with reflective learning support are described.
