Abstract

The purpose of this review paper is to provide a brief overview of the MPEG-7 standard with particular focus on part four, Audio. A summary of existing applications which utilise the MPEG-7 audio descriptors demonstrates that no existing application aims to provide standardised structural descriptions of musical audio for ultimate use within other systems.
