Recommender applications are used to support intuitive and personalized product and service selection processes for customers and sales representatives. In this paper we present a knowledge-based recommender environment which assists users in the identification of appropriate solutions from complex product and service assortments. We show how intelligent query relaxation, personalization and intuitive knowledge acquisition support the implementation of customer-friendly sales dialogues and report experiences gained in industrial recommender projects.
