Performance of multicarrier DS/SSMA systems in frequency-selective fading channels

The adaptive variable rate data transmission is considered as a tool for the fading influence compensation. Two strategies for bit duration adaptive control in multicarrier communication system are presented. The first is performed in such a way, to serve the demanded communication quality in each carrier (subchannel). If it is not possible, the quality is taken to be unsuitable. The second strategy provides the transmission and signal adaptation only in those subchannels, where the suitable quality can be held. The features of efficiency for both adaptive control strategies are determined and their reciprocal advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
