Abstract

Wireless networking requires rapid configuration and control of network elements and services, as it implies a wide variety of technical challenges in a nearly unpredictable environment. A broad range of information is needed in order to capture the situation both in the environment and inside the network, so that systems can offer reliable network services to users and assist applications. As a basis, information from various sensors is used combined with in-network measurements. Most wireless scenarios demand the use of this context information for real-time operations that use unreliable network links. The aim of this paper is to describe the requirements and architecture for a suitable system for context management based on an existing network measurement approach. With the example of a GPS-based location sensor and a location service we show how our context management system can be used.
