Abstract

The ManuBuild Construction Site Training Simulator provides a virtual environment for practicing new practice-based skills associated with off-site production. The ‘scenes’ of this simulator take place on a virtual construction site, and mainly targets professionals i.e. project managers, construction managers, architects, designers, suppliers, manufacturers etc. Thus, construction-related problems (e.g. key decisions, connectivity problems, faulty work, health and safety etc) can be simulated in respect of time, cost and resources (without the associated risks often associated with ‘learning-by-doing’). In this respect, the aim of this simulator is not to resolve the problems of using offsite manufacturing (OSM) per se, it does however provide a medium through which users can experience how things can go ‘wrong’ along with the resulting implications.
