Abstract

In this paper we present an efficient database and search engine for digitalized text publications. The system has been initially developed for the most important and largest dictionary for the german language - the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimms Deutsche Wörterbuch (german dictionary) but can be used for any other system that suffices some standards. Meanwhile, the online version of the Deutsche Wörterbuch is one of the most popular german web pages with several ten thousand requests a day, so it needs a very efficient database and search engine. To provide such efficiency, a special script language and data structure has been developed. In the main phases of this project, such as during the production process, i.e. the preparation of the data, as well as during the corresponding search engine Tcl/Tk plays an important role. Additionally we use the tools CoST (Copenhagener SGML Tool) and the Metakit library during the production process.
