Numerous sensors will be required in current and future advanced safety vehicles to provide more intelligent and automated services in an Intelligent Transportation System environment. However, most existing vehicles using Controller Area Network are limited by the lack of extensibility and interoperability among the sensors. In this paper, we present a Smart Car Sensor Network platform, which is an integrated sensor gateway based on the OSGi framework and AMI-C standards for vehicles. The platform improves both the extensibility of sensor by utilizing clustering methods and the interoperability by adopting open standard middleware. Furthermore, we have constructed a testbed environment to evaluate the performance of the SCSN platform using a virtual reality vehicle simulator and a vehicle network simulation tool. Through the simulation of realistic scenarios, the proposed platform demonstrates near real-time processing performance.
