Abstract

Next Generation Network (NGN), is the new approach for the operators to offer a more wide range of applications and services. Meanwhile, different Next Generation Network architectures which are proposed by manufacturers cause some ambiguities in forming of this concept in telecommunication networks. Only the required functions are considered for NGN in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), for convergence of telecommunications and Internet services. The Protocols for Advanced Networking standards, and any comprehensive scheme for implementing these functions has not proposed in a generic framework, yet. Hence, in this paper we proposed an operational and practical model for Next Generation Network architecture by mapping IP Multimedia Subsystem, Telecommunications, Internet Converged Services and Protocols for Advanced Networking functions to the physical network components. We also characterize the specification of these components and their interfaces. These specifications discuss the functional architecture of telecommunication service provider, based on IP Multimedia Subsystem model.
