Abstract

Recently, a ubiquitous access aims to provide users intelligent human-centric context-aware handoff mechanism at anytime anywhere is gradually become an important issue. However, most of existing handoff mechanisms only considered signal strength of Access Point (AP) that leads to problems of heavy load for a specific AP, low performance for mobile devices and ping pong effect. In this paper, we consider various contexts to propose a context-aware access point planning mechanism. The proposed mechanism utilizes Spatial Conceptual Map (SCM), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to plan efficient and seamless AP handoff. Specifically, SCM model is adopted to represent the real map of the surrounding environment. The proposed mechanism is able to derive an AP handoff plan which satisfies multiple requirements of individual user and reduces handoff delay. Finally, effectiveness of the proposed mechanism is also evaluated.
