Abstract

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are a novel wireless technology with many advantages such as easy deployment, low cost and dynamic self-configuration. The question of how to design a seamless and scalable wireless mesh is the driving force behind research. For conventional wireless networks, many mobility management solutions have been developed. Although some of the solutions could be migrated to mesh networks, considering the differences between WMNs and conventional wireless networks, new mobility management solutions should be designed and implemented for WMNs. In this paper, a comprehensive review, analysis, and comparison of many mobility management solutions over WMNs is presented, and future challenges in mobility management over WMNs are discussed.
