Abstract

In this paper we present a way to use adaptive antenna arrays in OPNET (Optimized Network Evaluation Tool) simulations. Adaptive antenna patterns, which are not supported by OPNET directly, can be implemented by interfacing OPNET with MATLAB, which performs the necessary calculations in beamforming. A MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol which is designed from the start to take advantage of an adaptive antenna system is used to demonstrate the setup.
