Abstract

The effective control of a ship on a desired track is an important task for the ship masters. This paper presents an effective autopilot for ships that has high fault tolerant capabilities in case of sensor failures or disturbances. The design of the observer for state estimation is done in a sequence of simple steps, one for each possible fault or disturbance.
