Abstract

This work involves specification, design and development of system level application software for the management of distributed control network (DCN), using which intelligent field components can be built, configured and managed. In particular the paper studies the required methodological infrastructure and design aspects of management layer (ML) for DCN. Moreover, the ML integrates simulation platform a top-level environment, by using which DCN validation can be achieved. The developed platform is modular and flexible which utilizes the benefit of object oriented and client-server approach, respectively. The utility of the developed platform is explained by demonstrating implementation with material handling system and spindle system, separately. It is concluded that the developed tool will improve the design capability by reducing the design time and improving productivity.
