Abstract

This paper presents a novel method of database workload compression basing on the queries' characteristics for purpose of solving Index Selection Problem (ISP). The algorithm applies a close analysis on the queries in workload to capture their characteristics, which are used to build the relationships between pairs of queries. Using these relationships, the original workload can be filtered out into the compressed workload, which can be used for the task without degrading the performance. This method has been implemented and the experiments on workloads illustrate that proposed solution can achieve a high performance with a little quality loss.
