Abstract

This correspondence explores the close relationship between multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), single-input multiple-output (SIMO), and phased-array radars. It is shown that under certain conditions, the signals received by a MIMO radar and by a properly defined SIMO radar are identical. Several equivalent variations of MIMO and SIMO radars are presented. These relationships make it possible to study MlMO radars in terms of their equivalent SIMO radars, using the extensive body of algorithms and performance analysis which have been developed for SIMO radars.
