The energy spreading transform (EST) based modulation with iterative signal detection has been shown to perform very close to the matched filter bound (MFB) for time-invariant or slow time-varying channels with signal-to-noise ratio over a threshold. However, for fast time-varying channels, the original equalization alone is not adequate. In this correspondence, we extend the EST-based approach to doubly-selective channels, that is, time-varying and frequency-selective channels. Our simulation results show that the extended approach has significant performance for doubly-selective channels.
