Abstract

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) have been the subject of active research for a number of years. The transmission of multimedia streaming in MANET is important and necessary to use for many functions, such as public safety, emergency response, disaster recovery, and military. Buffer monitoring is a simple technique to deal with networks with low delay variations while packet loss monitoring is best for networks with high delay variations. This paper proposes a transmission control mechanism for multimedia data streaming on MANET by using the collaboration of buffer monitoring and packet loss monitoring. This method is very effective in improving the reliability and flexibility for the transmission of multimedia data streaming. It can reduce suspend time and packet loss rate of multimedia presentation over a wide range of network situations.
