Abstract

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) create a rich environment for a broad spectrum of distributed applications. Meanwhile, MANETs also place new challenges for middleware systems running to support these applications, such as: freedom of mobility and organization, the lack of infrastructure and centralized authority, dynamicity of resources, bandwidth and connectivity, and so on. Considering these characteristics, to build a middleware for MANETs is a novel and complex task for middleware developers. In this paper, we propose a framework, named Spontaneousware, to be used to facilitate the development of middleware systems for MANETs. The framework serves as a semi-implementation and already incorporates the solution to some of challenges imposed by MANETs. In order to validate the proposed framework, we carry out an experimental evaluation of the proposed framework.
