Abstract

After nearly14 years since the first version of IPv6 was defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), there is still just a minimal amount of native IPv6 deployment in today's Internet. Clearly, the evolution of IPv6 since its initial roots as the Simple Internet Protocol has turned the next generation IP effort into one lacking any significant "must have" features. This paper revisits the subject of a next generation IP and presents a new design that builds upon previous and on-going research in proposing a strawman design that we term IPv10.0. Our objective is to present a starting point for discussion of a new IP version that is extensible, introduces new architectural features, and prompts new innovative capabilities.
