PESTLAW is a computerised, hypertext version of the book 'Pesticide Related Law' published by the British Crop Protection Council in 1989. Hypertext is used to store and access 120 summaries of pesticide-related law in the United Kingdom, dealing with aspects of pesticide testing and registration, production, storage and transport, marketing and selling, use, waste disposal, training and miscellaneous activities. PESTLAW contains 493 inter-connections, which allow the user to browse through relevant summaries. It is programmed using the expert system shell 'KnowledgePro' from Knowledge Garden Inc. The advantages of PESTLAW and hypertext are discussed, along with drawbacks, such as the problem of marketing.
