This paper investigates the application of H.264 standard to left ventricle (LV) video compression and its significance in telediagnosis. The perceptual bit allocation method proposed previously by the authors is briefly reviewed, followed by the introduction of two new video compression methods based on region of interest (ROI). Experimental results on MRI LV video sequences are presented and advantages and limitations of applying H.264 standard and the proposed methods to LV video sequences are discussed.
