Abstract

A MMPP-Gamma-fBm (MGF) fitting method is proposed in this paper. The aim is to obtain an exact solution for communications performance analysis considering markovian heavy-tailed arrivals. The MGF fitting also enables the replacement of an aggregated signal of MMPP processes by a single Gamma source for driven-simulation evaluation. The results show that using the proposed mapping it is possible to obtain exact results using the fractional Brownian storage or scaling formula. Simulation experiments showed that the convergence of heavy-tail processes to the steady state is a very critical point to the performance analysis.
