Abstract

Human-Computer Interaction design patternsbecame an often-used tool in the HCI community toencapsulate and share design knowledge. A good designpattern consists of several different components. There are thecontent elements, which encapsulate the description of theproblem, context and solution. Relationships between patternsare an essential part to best profit from the full reuse potentialpromised. Categorization of patterns helps to navigate moreeffectively within large pattern repositories, and formalizationof HCI patterns provides the possibility to use them in softwareapplications such as pattern management tools or userinterface design tools. This work gives a brief overview of theabove-mentioned components.
