Abstract

Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanism is a method commonly used to handle losses in video streaming. Moreover, the conventional FEC mechanism cannot overcome the problem of burst packet losses in wireless networks. In this paper, an FEC with Path Interleaving (FEC-PI) is proposed to improve the quality of video streaming in a multipath environment. The proposed FEC-PI mechanism sends interleaved data over multiple paths to overcome the FEC recovery performance problem due to the burst packet losses. Compared to the conventional FEC mechanism, the experimental results show that the proposed FEC-PI scheme achieves better performances in terms of packet loss rate and peak signal to noise ratio.
