Abstract

Due to an increasing trend of mobile multimedia services, consideration of power is crucial since portable devices have limited battery power inherently. In this paper we have proposed a power adaptive decoding scheme which makes efficient use of scalable (layered) bit-stream. The proposed decoder has a novel ability to either decode whole bit stream (all layers) or a portion of the bit stream (few layers) depending upon the available power. Experimental results show that the decoding time of proposed framework outperformed that of standard H.264 decoder by 86% for foreman sequence, in low battery levels.
