Abstract

We consider the transmission of multiple scalable video streams from a server to multiple users over a fading wireless channel. We first present a long-term resource allocation algorithm that determines the scheduling policy and the parameters used by the scheduling policy in order to maximize the weighted sum of PSNR of all video streams. We then present an online scheduling algorithm that utilizes the results obtained by the long-term resource allocation algorithm for user and packet scheduling as well as video frame dropping strategy. Simulation results show that our proposed scheduling scheme significantly improves the video quality compared to the best-known scheduling algorithms in the literature.
