As H.264 receives many applications, it becomes more and more important to develop copyright protection methods for the new standard. Watermarking technology combined with video codec is considered a possible solution. In this paper we propose a new robust watermarking scheme for H.264, which makes the following contributions: 1) embed the watermark in a H.264 new syntax element named reference index; 2) propose a modifying the current block algorithm to improve the robustness of the scheme; 3) modify the current block by means of a geometry method, which makes the modifying algorithm degrade the video quality as slightly as possible. Experimental results have demonstrated the good performance of our scheme.
