Abstract

Attempt is made here to examine qualities of the most widely used open source LMSs against a number of criteria constituting the state of art in personalisation and adaptation of information electronically communicated to e-learners. Results are concluded focusing on the effectiveness of learning and are presented in distinct criteria able to be positioned in layers onto LMSs' functions so that to expand and ameliorate them. An architecture is also presented consisting of different modules that support these criteria with the additional advantage that sustain the existing LMSs configuration and functioning mode – which would be too costly to alter; and widen the possibilities of a multitude of future applications.
