For finding the actual diagnosis of the faulty system, this paper discusses the relationship between the candidate of diagnosis and the set of the actual faulty components. Then we define the notion of adoptability of the diagnostic system and prove that the consistency-based diagnosis is adoptable. On the basis of the above works, a test theory of the diagnosis based on consistency is proposed, which indicates that how tests provide information about the current space of diagnoses.
