An investigation of how the software industry manages the issue of graphic user interface design with respect to cultural diversity was carried out. It compared Chinese and English language versions of software packages and discussed the depth of localisation within the software packages. In this study 20 main software packages that are considered localised by their manufacturers are examined and the degree to which localisation exists within these software packages is discussed. The investigation found that many of the software packages examined used the same computer icons in both their Chinese and English language versions.
