Abstract

Since its inception in mid-90s, the World Wide Web has become a major platform for presenting and distributing data in various domains. Much instrumentation and measurement data also are automatically processed and posted on the Web to reach more people of interest. However, the numerous sources and large volume of data will overwhelm data consumers. The RSS, a widely-adopted information dissemination tool, can bring textual messages from different sources into a single interface for relieving overloaded information consumers. However, it can not syndicate and manipulate other non-textual data, including those numerical data for presenting instrumentation and measurement results. Accordingly, this research aims to develop a platform on which numeric data from multiple sources could be syndicated and manipulated. With this kind of platform, people can collect data from diverse sources more efficiently, and then generate more valuable information for either decision-making or bookkeeping.
