Firstly, we analyze, analytically and by simulation, the bit error rate and block error rate of high frequency radio frequency identification technology operating over different environments: additive white Gaussian noise channel, temporally uncorrelated and block flat fading Rayleigh channels. Then, we develop an analytical tool to calculate the downlink and uplink link budget in order to estimate the system coverage when it is operating in the near field.
