The Random Early Detection (RED) scheme for congestion control in TCP is well known over a decade. Due to a few control parameters in RED, some improved RED machines have been proposed, but they cannot make acceptable delay, high throughput and low packet loss rate, etc., especially under heavy network load. This paper proposed an Adaptive Active Queue Management (AAQM) algorithm based on iatrical physiological homeostasis mechanism to adapt Next Generation Internet (NGI) applications demands. The NS-2 simulations results show that AAQM provides postponing congestion occurrence and increasing high link utilization, whilst reducing packet loss rate.
