Abstract

Humans are leaning on their postural control systems in their everyday lives. When getting older the ability of maintaining balance can weaken considerably. The reasons for this are ultimately medical and can be a very complex combination of many factors. Our interest in this subject is to recognize different swaying patterns that could help physicians in making diagnoses in cases where a patient suffers from balance disorders. On the basis of force platform measurements we present a method that effectively characterizes the differences in human swaying patterns when the age gap is about forty to fifty years.
