Abstract

The security of multimedia data in Wireless Ad hoc Networks (WANet) is commonly provided by encryption, i.e., the mathematical process that transforms a plaintext message into unintelligible ciphertext. Nevertheless, the classical and modern ciphers have all been developed without taking into consideration the intrinsic characteristics of multimedia flows. Our approach aims to reduce the computational requirements for the encryption of the multimedia flow when the energy is a limited resource in a Multimedia WANet (MWANet). In this paper, we define Energy Efficiency SRTP (EE_SRTP) a new profile of Secure Real Time Protocol (SRTP).EE_SRTP provides energy efficiency to SRTP which essentially provides confidentiality, message authentication, and replay protection to the RTP traffic. In EE_SRTP, we exploit the dependency between the frames created by the inter-frame coding to further improve the energy-efficiency of the encryption process. The originality of our work is real tests and the experimental of this novel model, compared to the others model proposed in literature, by integrating EE_SRTP to Video LAN Coding (VLC). So, to validate EE_SRTP we implement a Secure Video LAN Coding (SecVLC). The performance evaluation demonstrates that using this new scheme in wireless ad hoc nodes save energy and ensures a high level of content confidentiality, without adding any overhead to the wireless network.
