Abstract

We discuss an image authentication technique based upon embedding a robust signature into the image. Since any embedding process introduces errors and subsequently degrades image quality, we present a technique of analyzing embedding errors and develop a recursive embedding algorithm that can be "reversed" after the authentication decision is made. This partial reversal in the detector results in a semi-reversible watermark that does not give back perfect image reconstruction; however it is shown to have good robustness qualities and compares well to related techniques reported in the literature. We apply our method to medical imagery in a telehealth application.
