In this paper, we present new spreading code acquisition techniques that benefit from the inherent diversity of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna systems. The pilot codes consist of a number of concatenated short Gold codes which are transmitted in parallel by using a group of transmit antennas. The mean acquisition time (MAT) of acquisition schemes with different antenna combinations are evaluated and compared. The code structure and acquisition schemes in this paper can be applied to the primary stage as well as the secondary stage of the cell search process of the wideband CDMA system.
