Due to the impact VANETs may have in traffic safety as well as in drivers comfort, they have became an important area of research. The applications that may be developed for this new scenario are not restricted exclusively to traffic management. It is possible to develop applications related to value-added services. In order to do so successfully and bearing in mind that in these networks self-organization plays a determining role, it is important to incentivize vehicles to participate in tasks such as packet forwarding. In this work the requirements for the design of cooperation schemes to incentivize packet forwarding in VANETs are explored with the aim of defining a theoretical model for share rewarding.
