The Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is a European digital trunked system standard proposed in 2006. Digital trunked radio system is a special mobile communication system that helps to enhance the work efficiency and security. The DMR over-the-air protocol from ETSI specifies the 4-level Continuous Phase Frequency Shift Keying (CPFSK) as its standard modulation scheme. In this paper, we propose a digital IF solution for the narrowband DMR system and provide both simulation and FPGA implementation result. The BER performance of the proposed method is better than multi-symbol differential detection at the DMR specified BER level. The proposed digital IF scheme can be implemented on most of the hardware platforms using software radio.
