Abstract

Accurately tracking phase and frequency of the signal (including both Carrier and Pseudo code) is the prerequisite for GNSS receiver. This paper gives an extended analytic expression for PLL phase and frequency tracking performance with consideration of finite frontend. The different effects of finite frontend on tracking performance between PLL and DLL are compared. Contrasted with the former work, the effect of bandlimited on the signal is analyzed, and the analytic expressions for the frequency tracking error are presented. These expressions that are derivate from analog loop model are extended to the digital loop model which gives accurate evaluation of phase and frequency tracking performance for large BnTp (Normalized loop bandwidth). At last experiments validate that the extended theory predicts the tracking performance well regardless of BnTp.
