To enhance the access performance when connecting of MANET and Internet via multiple gateways, a gateway selection scheme using improved genetic algorithm was proposed. This scheme selected gateways based on hopcount, gateway load and path quality, and made use of an hybrid search approach which based on orthogonal genetic algorithm and sensitivity analysis. The optimum gateway was elected out through performance analysis. The process of the hybrid search approach and the calculation of the gateway selection metrics were also put forward in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieved better performance in packet delivery radio and average packet delay.
