Abstract

Wireless mesh network is a new broadband wireless network architecture which can be deployed easily in almost any environment. With many good features comparing to infrastructure network, mesh based network architecture can be extended to many application areas, i.e. space communications and underwater communications. In some application areas, oneway link between neighbor nodes will lead to asymmetric network topology. Existing routing protocols are not feasible anymore in such asymmetric mesh networks. In this paper, an efficient routing protocol (A-DSDV) is proposed for asymmetric mesh networks. Inheriting from DSDV protocol, A-DSDV is also free of loop routing and counting-to-infinity problems. The proposed protocol has been implemented in the NCTUns simulator and performance simulation has been conducted as regular routing protocols evaluation. The simulation shows that A-DSDV has similar performance as DSDV, but can work well in asymmetric mesh networks.
